Serving Finland remotely

SEO specialist in Finland

Finnish is a language of long inflected and compound words, so one idea appears in many forms, and keyword research for Finland has to cover them all. I am an SEO specialist working remotely from India, 2.5 to 3.5 hours ahead of Helsinki depending on daylight saving. For Finnish software, industrial and tourism businesses I plan Finnish, Swedish and English coverage, structured data and measurement.

Based in India and working remotely: no office in Finland, and video calls at times that suit you. Finland is on UTC+2 (EET) from late October to late March and UTC+3 (EEST) in summer; India is on UTC+5:30, so Finland is 3 hours 30 minutes behind India in winter and 2 hours 30 minutes behind in summer. The normal working week is Monday to Friday, and many Finnish offices start early. A 09:00 start in Helsinki is 12:30 or 11:30 in India, so almost the whole Finnish day overlaps with mine.

Search engine optimisation (SEO) for Finland businesses

A Finnish place name changes with its ending: someone looking for a dentist searches for Helsingissä, in Helsinki, as often as for the plain name, and the same happens with every service word. Search engines handle some of this, but research tools undercount it, so I read the real query forms in Search Console and write titles, headings and opening sentences in natural Finnish rather than stuffing the base form. A native speaker reviews the copy before it goes live. On the south and west coast, where Swedish is also an official language, I add Swedish pages where customers use it, and link the language versions with hreflang.

Industrial technology, cleantech and software companies in Espoo, Otaniemi, Tampere and Oulu usually sell abroad, so their sites should speak to engineers and tender teams in English. I write one page per product family with specifications, certifications and standards as readable text, not only as downloadable files, and I build case-style pages only from results the company can document. LinkedIn is important for these buyers, so page titles and descriptions are written to read well when shared. Under the Act on Electronic Communications Services, supervised by Traficom, non-essential cookies need consent before they run, which I build into the tag setup.

Tourism in Lapland and around Rovaniemi is intensely seasonal. Winter and northern-lights searches rise early in the autumn, so lodges and activity providers need booking pages in several languages ready well before the first snow, with up-to-date photographs and clear cancellation wording. Most Finnish companies slow down in July, and many offices start early, so a 09:00 start in Helsinki is 11:30 or 12:30 for me and nearly the whole Finnish day overlaps with mine. I plan launches around holidays. I have no office in Finland, I work with clients in any time zone, and the accounts remain yours.

Time zone

How projects there are usually paid
Finnish consumers often pay online through the payment buttons of their own banks, via providers such as Paytrail, as well as by card and invoice services like Klarna, while companies pay by SEPA bank transfer against an invoice. Value added tax, called ALV, has a standard rate of 25.5% since September 2024. Local currency: EUR.
Languages
Finnish, Swedish, English
Rules that apply
The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies, and the national supervisory authority is the Data Protection Ombudsman, so forms, analytics and ad tracking need a lawful basis and an honest privacy notice.

SEO specialist in Finland: questions

Finnish words take case endings, so a search for a service in a city appears as many different forms. I check the forms people really type in Search Console and write natural Finnish that covers them.

Only if its customers use Swedish. Along the south and west coast many do, so I add Swedish pages there and link the versions with hreflang. Elsewhere, good Finnish and English pages are enough.

Searches rise well before winter, so I prepare booking pages in several languages early in the autumn, keep them on permanent addresses and use Search Console to see when interest starts building each year.

Many Finnish businesses answer slowly in July, so I avoid launching large changes then. Technical fixes and content are planned for May, June or August, with reporting scheduled when your team is back.

I cannot promise a position, and anyone who does is guessing. What I can do is remove technical blockers, match pages to real searches, improve content and structure, and report honestly what moves in Search Console over the following months.

Technical fixes can change crawling and indexing within days or weeks, while rankings for competitive searches usually take several months and sometimes longer. I report trends monthly and tell you what is working, what is not and what I am unsure about.

Yes. I build multilingual sites with correct language tags and separate pages for each language, and I recommend that native speakers review the Finnish and Swedish copy before it goes live.

Real queries mapped to pages, with overlaps, gaps and pages that should be merged, rewritten or removed.
